It was one of the posters of this high end Challenger in Aix-en-Provence, between two big names of the circuit: Andy Murray versus Gaël Monfils. It quickly became a walk in the park for the Scot, who gave up only five games to the Frenchman (6-3, 6-2) in the first round. Murray will cross paths with another Frenchman, Laurent Lokoli, for his second match in the tournament.
In a quarterfinal at Roland Garros in 2014, the Briton won in five sets against the Frenchman (6-4, 6-1, 4-6, 1-6, 6-0). Often injured in recent seasons, Murray, soon to be 36, and Monfils, who will be 37 in September, had not crossed paths since.
