Alexander Zverev, injured since the French Open when he was fighting a titanic battle against Rafael Nadal, finally sees the end of the tunnel. After preparing for the Davis Cup in September, “Sascha” had to withdraw from the tournament because of bone swelling in his feet. The German was forced to stop his season prematurely and left the Top 10 for the first time in 5 years at the end of the season. Fortunately, the news is reassuring. Zverev will be back in Saudi Arabia at the beginning of December at the Diriyah Tennis Cup, from 8 to 10. After that, he will play in the World Tennis League in Dubai, in the Coca-Cola Arena.
On the Diriyah Tennis Cup YouTube channel, Alexander Zverev talked about his return. “I’m just looking forward to getting back on the court, back on a competitive court, because it’s been a very long time for me. I’m looking forward to being back on the tour and I’m looking forward to playing matches and of course you don’t want your first event to be in Australia, because you’re feeling good, you might be physically fit, you might be in the best shape of your life. But if you haven’t played a match for seven months, the fitness level is different, the mental stress is different. So you want to play before the Australian Open and I think that’s the reason why Saudi Arabia is so well placed this year.”
