In less than a month the final phase of the Billie Jean King Cup will take place. In Glasgow, from November 8 to 13, twelve nations will fight to succeed Russia. Because of the invasion in Ukraine, the title holders have been excluded from the competition and will not be able to defend their trophy. France, eliminated in the playoffs, will not be part of the game either. The contenders are Australia, Belgium, Canada, Czech Republic, Great Britain, Italy, Kazakhstan, Poland, Slovakia, Spain, Switzerland and finally the United States. These teams are divided into four groups of which only the first will see the semi-finals.
Group A will see the opposition of Switzerland, Canada and Italy. Beaten in the final of the 2021 edition by the Russian armada, the Swiss team will try its luck again this year and dream of a first title. Not surprisingly, Heinz Guenthardt will be able to count on Belinda Bencic, ranked 14th in the world. The Swiss will try to bring along Jil Teichmann, Viktorija Golubic and Simona Waltert. The Swiss have a great chance to win since the two nations they face have no players in the Top 25. However, the Canadians will field a nice team with Leylah Fernandez and Bianca Andreescu as stars, followed by Gabriela Dabrowski, Rebecca Marino and Carol Zhao. Finally, Italy has chosen to select Lucia Bronzetti, Elisabetta Cocciaretto, Camila Giorgi, Jasmine Paolini and Martina Trevisan.
So, who do you see winning the BJK Cup this year ?
