Novak Djokovic had promised to tell more about his injury that occurred in Melbourne and reveal the whole truth about it. Words that are not without reminding the promise of a documentary on his injury contracted in the abdominal muscles at the Australian Open 2021 and that for the moment, has not seen the day. In the meantime, Craig Tiley had taken the lead. He had announced in early February that the Serb had played with a 3 cm injury to the thigh. Revelations that had not convinced everyone. So inevitably, this Wednesday at 2pm in Belgrade, Serbia, in front of the press, we expected the world number one to make all the expected revelations. Questioned by the media after a training session, Novak Djokovic was finally not more talkative: “I play Dubai but I still do not know if I can go to the United States. Regarding my injury, I don’t have the energy, desire or time to deal with everything that comes out on the Internet. I know what the truth is.”
There is little to learn from this press conference. The Serbian talked about his health, his short-term plans, his rivals, Carlos Alcaraz and Rafael Nadal, and Steffi Graf’s record. Nothing new and no further explanation of his injury. Good news though, “Djoko” is better and will play next week in Dubai. Then, he still hopes to play Indian Wells and Miami but is waiting for the agreement of the American authorities. No progress for the moment.
