For Dominic Thiem the sky seems to be clearing a little at the beginning of 2023. After his first victory this year in Buenos Aires, the Austrian was able to announce that he had received a wild card for the Indian Wells tournament. Indeed, ranked 99th on the ATP, he was too low to enter the draw directly. Tommy Haas therefore logically wanted to have the 2019 winner on his starting line. This is good news for the tournament, which is already in danger of losing world number one Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal.
The former world number 3 posted a short video on the tournament website and did not hide his joy at being able to participate in the Californian tournament: “Hello, Indian Wells, today I received the great news that I will have a wild-card, for the BNP Paribas Open 2023. This is amazing news, as it’s a tournament I love and it will be my first time playing there since I won the tournament in 2019. I can’t wait to see you all there. Thank you.”
