If their relationship has long been tumultuous, Nick Kyrgios and Novak Djokovic are now on very good terms. A relationship that had begun to improve in early 2022 when the Australian had defended all his possible the Serbian legend while the latter was excluded from Australia after a long soap opera of several weeks. Then, it was at Wimbledon, where they met in the final, that the two men really became friends. When they were supposed to meet again for a new duel at the World Tennis League, an exhibition organized in Dubai, Nole had to withdraw.
Beaten by Felix Auger-Aliassime, Kyrgios took the opportunity to praise the former world No. 1. “I think Novak (Djokovic) has to play no matter what. He’s one of the greatest players of all time and as long as he’s on the tour, we need him to play in these kinds of tournaments. As a competitor, I want to see him there. And then if you win a tournament and you don’t play Novak (Djokovic), you pretty much know you didn’t win the tournament. I was obviously excited to play Novak. After the Wimbledon final and all that, I wanted to get on the court and have fun with him. But he has to take care of his body because big events and big expectations are coming up in the next few months for him so I wasn’t surprised that he didn’t play if he wasn’t feeling 100 percent.”
