While their team was eliminated in the Davis Cup quarterfinals against Italy, captain Mardy Fish, as well as Team USA coach Bob Ryan, were both fined $10,000 on Tuesday for promoting a sports betting operator via their social networks. A violation according to the rules imposed by the International Tennis Integrity Agency, which states the full cooperation of Fish and Ryan in this investigation. Based in London, the ITIA has also announced a four-month suspension for former American players. The suspension will only take effect if there is a repeat offence during this period, which began on November 11.
“The USTA is aware of the fines imposed by the ITIA on Mardy Fish and Bob Bryan. Both Mardy and Bob have our full support. As stated by the ITIA, neither was aware that their actions constituted a violation of the protocols, and once informed, they immediately and fully cooperated with the ITIA throughout the process,” said a USTA spokesperson.
