The last pure server-volley player of the circuit, Maxime Cressy is an atypical player. And one thing is for sure, he does not lack ambition. Born in Paris but representing the United States on the circuit, he is currently ranked 54th in the world at 25 years old. A three-time ATP 250 finalist last year, Cressy opened his account in Newport last July with a win over Alexander Bublik in the final. After this first career title, the French-American, who has climbed close to the Top 30, had already expressed his desire to one day become world number one. This Thursday, during an interview with the ATP, he again insisted on this goal.
“My mentality is unique. I put a lot of emphasis on what I can control, on my serve, on being the most efficient volleying player. That’s what scares my opponents the most. I have to focus on myself and not on them. My main goal is to be No. 1 in the world and dominate the circuit. I don’t put any limits on myself, I haven’t done that until now. That’s why I’ve reached this level, and I believe this mentality will carry me to much more success. I can simply visualize who I want to be and when. I have a lot of confidence that I will succeed in my goals. I’ve been doing this every year for the last four or five years, and most of my goals are coming true.”
