Daniil Medvedev’s 2022 season against the world’s top 10 is a disaster. Even more so in recent days, with defeats against Andrey Rublev and Stefanos Tsitsipas in Turin. Since his final loss at the Australian Open against Rafael Nadal, the Russian remains on a series of 7 consecutive defeats against members of the top 10. An unacceptable series for a player of this caliber, who still aims to regain his place as world number 1. Daniil Medvedev did not hide himself in front of the journalists in a press conference, and admits to having had a level of play below his expectations this season. A reaction in contradiction with another he had held a few days earlier, in which he seemed to be satisfied with his rather regular level of play in 2022.
“It shows that I have not been good enough and that I need to play better tennis. It’s not a mental issue, just if you don’t play good tennis against these guys, you’re lost. Today I had to win. If I want to move up in the rankings again, I have no choice, I have to beat these kind of players,” he commented. His 2022 season is almost over, but Daniil Medvedev will have to put an end to this black series as soon as possible to hope to regain the taste of victory.
