Rafael Nadal is back in Australia to defend his crown in Melbourne. He had managed to win a 21st Grand Slam by beating Daniil Medvedev in a historic final at the Australian Open 2022. This victory was his second Australian Open title after a final win over Roger Federer in 2009. He is now a two-time winner (or better) of every Grand Slam tournament. In a press conference for the United Cup, he talked about his favorites for the final victory this year.
As the teams lined up for their press conferences, Rafa was asked if he thought Nick Kyrgios could go all the way in Australia this year. Kyrgios won the men’s doubles last year and had some great performances throughout last season. “I know he doesn’t like playing at Roland Garros very much. But it’s the only tournament he doesn’t like to play too much. He had a wonderful 2022 season, he played the final of the Wimbledon tournament. In New York, he was very close to the final. He can win in any tournament he plays in. He has all the talent and weapons to win against any player. Of course he can,” said Nadal.
