The weeks follow each other in South America. For the second tournament in a row, the first and second seeds, Carlos Alcaraz and Cameron Norrie faced each other in the final. Last week, the Spaniard won in two sets 6-3, 7-5 to win his seventh title at the age of 19 and bring his record to 4-1 against the Briton. The latter also very ambitious managed to reverse the steam this Sunday evening in the final in Rio. While Alcaraz was on his way to the double, Norrie managed to upset the Spaniard to win 5-7, 6-4, 7-5 and claim his fifth ATP title.
The player most anticipated by the South American public, Carlos Alcaraz had already been upset, but is hanging on in Rio. The number 1 seed of the tournament had been heckled on Thursday by Fabio Fognini. This Friday, the world number 2 was again shaken, but still won in two sets against the Serbian Dusan Lajovic, 6-4, 7-6(0). On Saturday, “Carlitos” had to work hard again to defeat a player who came out of the qualifiers, Nicolas Jarry 6-7(2), 7-5, 6-0. A nice victory, but not enough to quench his thirst for success.
