After her painful Australian Open with knee discomfort and an elimination in the second round against Marketa Vondrousova, Ons Jabeur had to go through surgery. A minor operation that went well according to her Instagram post on Tuesday. However, the current world number three player had to give up the idea of playing the Doha and Dubai tournaments. A heartbreak as Jabeur always looks forward to playing in the Middle East, where her fans are numerous. A return to Indian Wells is now hoped for.
“Hi everyone. This is an update on my medical situation. The minor surgery has been done and according to my medical team, successfully. I should be able to get back on the field and back to work within the next week. I wanted to thank from the bottom of my heart, every single person who has sent messages and shown their support and love. I am truly blessed to have you all behind me. I can’t wait to get back on the circuit and share more memories with you,” she wrote on her Instagram.
The Tunisian had already spoken out before the surgery. “In order to take care of my health, my medical team decided that I needed to undergo a minor surgery to be able to return to the courts and perform well. I will have to withdraw from Doha and Dubai and that breaks my heart. I want to apologise to all the fans in the Middle East who have been waiting for this reunion. I promise you that I will come back stronger and healthier.”
