Iga Swiatek published a long message on Tuesday on social networks in reaction to the accusations of sexual violence against the president of the Polish Tennis Federation Mirosław Skrzypczyński. The world number 1, who considered the case a “serious problem”, called on the governing bodies to shed light on the revelations and take appropriate action.
Iga Swiatek is a committed woman and she assumes it. While for several weeks, accusations of sexual assault have been multiplying against Mirosław Skrzypczyński, the president of the Polish Tennis Federation, the world number 1 called spoke out on the subject on Tuesday in a message published on her Twitter account. In a vibrant plea denouncing violence in the world of sports and tennis, she thus called on the governing bodies of tennis to shed light on the matter.
“I am against violence in sports, tennis and everyday life in general. That is why I consider the articles about the president of the Polish federation as a serious problem. The governing bodies should determine what happened and I hope they will deal with this case after what the media wrote, the stories of the people they talked to. It’s not my job to do the work of the governing bodies and the journalists, it’s far too serious a matter: it’s about people’s lives and health. What I can do is encourage you to seek help when something bad happens in sports communities,” Swiatek said in his message.
POLISH FEDERATION PRESIDENT REJECTS ALLEGATIONS
While the Polish champion has never personally experienced this kind of abuse, she wants to be a voice for potential victims. “I can use my influence, be a voice that tries to inform and remind people that the most basic thing to do when you need it is to seek help. It’s crucial to listen to people who are suffering from violence, especially if they don’t have the tools and strength to speak openly about it,” she said.
In addition to the allegations of sexual abuse of underage girls in his tennis club, Mirosław Skrzypczyński is accused by his own daughter of beating her. Accused by his ex-step-mother of being equally violent with his ex-wife, the person concerned rejected everything in full.
