After an Australian tour that didn’t necessarily live up to expectations, one might have wondered if Iga Swiatek would dominate the WTA Tour like she did last year. In the end, the Polish player reminded everyone why she was the boss with a string of great performances over the last two weeks. First in Doha, she managed to defend her title by dropping only five games, a record. Then she went to Dubai and reached the final at almost the same pace. And if the world number one, not at her best, fell to Barbora Krejcikova on Saturday in the final, she largely reassured about her level.
In an Instagram post this Monday, Swiatek came back on the last two tournaments. “Yesterday (Sunday) I was still in Dubai, today I am in Warsaw, soon in Indian Wells… These last few weeks have been intense and challenging but we have worked a lot and progressed. I enjoyed the tournaments in Doha and Dubai and even if I lost the final in Dubai (a big congratulations to Krejcikova), my level was good despite the infection. I gave everything I had. I can see that some of you have higher expectations of me, but hey… I’m just human. I will keep my standards high, enjoy my time on the circuit and continue to work hard. In the end, that’s all I can control. My efforts and my commitment. Thank you all for your support and see you soon!”
