The Diriyah Tennis Cup which takes place in Saudi Arabia started on Thursday. Until Saturday, some of the best players of the circuit will compete to try to get a rhythm and to continue their preparation for 2023. This Friday, it was the semi-finals and a doubles tournament reuniting the losers of the day before. And by chance of the draw, the ex-friends Stefanos Tsitsipas and Nick Kyrgios played side by side. After their explosive match at Wimbledon, the two men could not resist Dominic Stricker and Hubert Hurkacz at the end of the evening (7-6, 7-6).
Daniil Medvedev did not really work or test himself against the returning Alexander Zverev, whom he beat 6-0, 6-4. For his semifinal match against Stan Wawrinka, the Russian was once again solid to extinguish the Swiss 6-4, 6-4. Medvedev will have been able to play at least three matches after the final on Saturday.
The other semi-final was between the ambitious Cameron Norrie and Taylor Fritz. The Briton had beaten Nick Kyrgios in two tie-breaks, then Stefanos Tsitsipas. Without knowing it, he rushed the two ex-friends into the same doubles team. However, he was unable to confirm his fine run, losing 7-6(4), 4-6, 10-6 on Thursday to Taylor Fritz, who beat Hubert Hurkacz in the quarterfinals. Finally, the first doubles match was won by Berrettini/Rublev against the German pair of Zverev and Thiem (6-3, 7-6).
