The field for the 2022 WTA Finals to be held in Texas at North Forth is taking shape. Five of the eight players who will be competing are known: Iga Swiatek, Ons Jabeur and Jessica Pegula were the first three to qualify. Wednesday evening, Coco Gauff and Caroline Garcia validated their place for the Masters. There are only three tickets left to be distributed.
Aryna Sabalenka is well on her way. Beaten on Wednesday, the Belarusian is just behind Caroline Garcia at the Race and should therefore be able to be part of the eight best players in the world. Same thing for Daria Kasatkina, who needs a win this Thursday against her compatriot Anna Kalinskaya to go to Texas. Finally, the last virtual qualifier, Veronika Kudermetova is chased. In case of defeat against Jelena Ostapenko on Thursday night, the Russian could be overtaken by Maria Sakkari and thus already deprived of the Masters. Madison Keys, just behind Sakkari in the Race, will have to at least reach the final to have any hope. However, she remains alive, as do Danielle Collins and Jelena Ostapenko.
