This is undoubtedly the story of the week. For the first time since the creation of the ATP rankings in 1973, a Chinese player is among the top 100 players in the world. Zhizhen Zhang came from the qualifying rounds in Naples and made it all the way to the quarter-finals. In all, he collected 57 points, giving him the number 97 on Monday.
Dominic Thiem is just a few steps away from reaching the Top 100: a semifinalist for the second tournament in a row, the Austrian has overtaken 19 of his colleagues and is now ranked 113th, 45 points behind the 100th-ranked Australian, Jason Kubler. He is therefore no longer far from validating his end-of-season goal.
